  • 1.  Channel in initializing state and message built up in xmitq

    Has anyone encountered this issue before, Channel in initializing state and message build up in xmitq.
    Queue manager become unstable.

    Tried start/stop of channels but was getting 'channel in use' error.

    Do you have any errors in your queue manager AMQERR01.LOG on the sending end queue manager?

    Initializing means the channel hasn't even got as far as trying to start yet, as shown in this diagram:-

    Is it possible that you have reached MaxChannels? There should be an error to say so of course.

    Hi Prakash, 

    Not sure if my answer will help you at all, but YES we have had a similar issue (a while back) on our MQ 7.5 Queue Manager on Solaris, the channel was stuck on 'Initializing' and we had to restart MQ to get around this problem. 

    I remember there were no log entries or FDCs and we had opened PMRs with IBM and Oracle, but we could not find anything conclusive and we could not reproduce the error. We had this issue in Production just once, it never happened again. We did add alerting for 'Initializing' state though.

    We have opened a PMR as well nothing conclusive and nothing in logs to determine the root cause. Failover to other server has fixed the issue - I mean a queue manager restart has fixed it but root cause unknown.

    Was the channel  running ok ? Is the first time you are using this channel? The "initializing" status means connection not reaching the remote site, can you telnet to queue manager ip/port?

    Channels were running fine until we encountered the issue, Ping channel was working. 
    When trying to restart the channel it is going to 'Initializing state' and logs shows 'channel in use error'.

    Failover to the other server has fixed the issue but we are not able to conclude the root cause.
