  • 1.  Datapower Managed instance in IBM Public Cloud

    Hi Everyone,

Does IBM Public cloud provides Datapower on VMWare or Linux VM as an manage instance?
Does Datapower on Docker container can be host on IBM Public Cloud?
Does Datapower on IKS as an manage instance can be host on IBM Public Cloud?

I am looking similar solution like IBM Cloud Paks for Integration - API Gateway (Virtual DP) on Red Hat Openshift and can be host on IBM Public Cloud..

    Thank you,
    manooj

IBM has no offering for DataPower in the cloud so regardless of which option you choose you have to BYOL and manage the installation on your own.

You can run DataPower on IKS but keep in mind that you can only use one NIC/IP per instance for Docker.

    Best Regards,
    Anders

    Hi Anders,

Thank you for your quick response.

As you mentioned - You can run DataPower on IKS but keep in mind that you can only use one NIC/IP per instance for Docker.
Do you mean we can only use single eth0 interface/ip per instance for Docker and same interface will be use for management and services?

I have seen IBM Offering Solution - IBM Cloud Paks for Integration is enterprise-ready, Red hat Openshift containerized solution which you can deploy on any public cloud - IBM Cloud, AWS and Azure.  Do you see any challenges/limitations in this IBM Offering especially for API Gateway - Datapower component?

I have read one blog recently on API Connect - IBM Middleware User Community - There is a webinar API Connect SaaS - Reserved Instance.
API Connect V10 Reserved Instance - fully managed by IBM - API Connect now works alongside the IBM Cloud.
Again my interest in very specific API Connect - Datapower component. How this work for Datapower component?

Please share you valuable thoughts on this.
    Thank you,

    manooj

Hi Manooj, I see that you are interested in DataPower as a Managed Service on IBM Cloud. As Anders stated below: this is not available at the moment. There are several ways to achieve your goal like DataPower managed by IBM Services or a BP. Maybe this will fix your issue right now. Regards, Peter

Yes, DataPower on Docker is limited to only one NIC but you can of course do port and/or IP mapping on IKS or Docker host.

If you are looking for API Connect there are options for a hosted solution from IBM, both Cloud (Public), App Connect Enterprise or dedicated hosting for API Connect. All of those options include the DataPower as a gateway but it is "built-in" and can't be used for anything but the API Connect workload.

If you need DataPower stand-alone there are no hosted options.

    Hi Manooj,

just to let you know, you don't necessarily need OpenShift to run DataPower containers.
For example, we have been using Google Kubernetes Engine for the past three months.
Not managed instances though, as Peter and Anders stated, there isn't an offering for that.

Hi everybody.  While IBM may not have this offering yet, we (TxMQ) is working on delivering this offering to customers, and would be happy to discuss your needs Manooj as we are still looking at a variety of options to deliver.
