New MQ Appliance M2002 models will ship with the 9.2 LTS firmware onboard by default, but you can move at any time to the CD firmware if there is function of interest.

Where can I get IBM MQ 9.2.5 from?

MQ 9.2.5 delivers concurrently on distributed platforms, MQ for z/OS, MQ Appliance and IBM MQ on IBM Cloud managed service platforms. For any queries about what each Program entitles you to install check out the MQ license information page.

What’s new in the MQ 9.2.5 CD release?

In addition to the below, there is also a new MQ focused Podcast available from www.DoYouMQ.comSpotify or Apple Podcasts featuring MQ experts, customers and business partners sharing their knowledge and insights about MQ capabilities. MQ updates on distributed platforms

What's new/changed - IBM MQ

  • IBM MQ native HA is now available to deploy in containers on Kubernetes

An example Helm chart has been provided in the ibm-messaging GitHub repo. For more information about Native HA, including what it is, how it works, and how to get started, see: Cloud native high availability with IBM MQ. Supported container runtimes are documented under the Runtime Environments section of the MQ system requirement pages.

  • REST Messaging API enhancements
The messaging REST API is used to perform simple point-to-point and publish messaging, for instance messages can be published to a topic, sent to a queue, browsed on a queue, and destructively got from a queue. This RESTful API allows the creation and consumption of IBM MQ messages without the requirement of an MQ client install. In IBM MQ 9.2.5, user properties can be set on messages enabling messaging REST API users to identify and route messages more effectively.

  • Security enhancements
    • MQ Internet Pass-Thru (IPT) now supports TLS 1.3 and can now also support multiple queue manager certificates
    • Supports TLS secured communications has been added to the IBM MQ .NET XA Monitor application.
  • IA94 XMS C/C++ SupportPac update - https://ibm.biz/mqxms3supportpac
The IA94 SupportPac has been repackaged to be unzippable and go with no installation and is also now licensed to be redistributable with applications. There are also defect fixes and other lifecycle updates. It is supported on Microsoft Windows, Linux x86-64 and AIX.

    MQ for z/OS

    What's new/changed - IBM MQ

    •  z/OS 64-bit RBA (Relative Byte Address) by default provides greater capacity for MQ log data without requiring a manual step by the user
    • Java 11 -  IBM MQ Java Batch applications can now be modernised with Java 11 support

    MQ Appliance

    What's new/changed - IBM MQ Appliance

    • Encrypted storage for queue manager data
With the MQ 9.2.5 firmware update it is  now possible to encrypt individual queue managers. Queue managers that are mirrored to a paired HA appliance can also benefit from encryption before transfer, providing enhanced security between appliances.
    • Rename or validate a queue manager certificate
To improve management of queue manager certificates two new commands have been added to enable renaming of a certificate (renamecert) and validating a certificate trust chain (validatecert).

Remind me how the Continuous Delivery support model works…

It's worth reminding you what the Continuous Delivery support model means for MQ.

    • MQ 9.2 LTS is supported for a minimum of 5 years from its availability in July 2020, and will receive fix only updates through fixpacks versioned 9.2.0.1, 9.2.0.2 and so on.
    • MQ CD updates will be delivered with the 3rd digit change – 9.2.1, 9.2.2 and so on. Defect support for a CD release is available for 12 months from the availability of the release or while it remains one of the two most recent CD releases, whichever is longer, so you need to keep moving forward with the MQ CD releases.
    • MQ CD updates will be delivered with new function enabled by default.
    • The IBM MQ FAQ for Long Term Support and Continuous Delivery Releases will hopefully answer most of your questions.
