IBM Instana Observability Self-Hosted releases a new version – version  1.0.237 – today, November 22, 2022.

This latest release delivers enhancements and additional coverage from what was delivered with version 1.0.235. In this release, you can directly use Instana packages for installation and deployment.  For detailed instructions, see the Instructions.pdf file, which you can download from Passport Advantage.

Main features now available to IBM clients in the new release are listed below.

IBM MQ Managed File Transfer Monitoring (Technology Preview)

A new sensor that monitors IBM MQ Managed File Transfer (MFT) is available as Technology Preview. It collects basic metrics from coordination queue manager and MFT agents, and triggers an event when a file transfer fails for any reason. For more information, see Monitoring IBM MQ Managed File Transfer.

Sensor improvements

Db2 LUW Sensor

  • The Containers table is removed from the dashboard on Instana UI because the data in the table is already available in the Buffer Pool Data Pages, Buffer Pool Index Pages and Buffer Pool Time graph.

  • Fixed the problem that the host agent fails to fetch the type information from the configuration.yaml file if the configuration value is set to the environment variable or external files during local monitoring.

Go Collector

  • Starting with version 1.47.0, the Go Collector requires Go version 1.13 or later.

Golang Sensor

  • Added an alert to report outdated Golang runtimes

IBM ACE Tracing

  • Fixed an issue that the upstream application fails to be associated with when ACE server receives a request that includes only W3C tracing format.

IBM WebSphere Sensor

  • Fixed an issue about redundant log messages in WAS log file.

  • Fixed an issue that not all Servlets are listed on Instana UI.

IBM i OS Sensor

  • Fixed the issue that the CPU rate and usage are not displayed with the latest patches of IBM i OS server.

Kafka Sensor

  • IBM Event Streams, which is built on open-source Apache Kafka, is supported from IBM Event Streams v3.0.5 onwards.

MSSQL Sensor

  • Added metrics for Maximum Connections, DB Memory, Cache Hit Rate, Virtual Memory, and Response Time

MySQL Sensor

  • Add metrics for InnoDB Buffer Pool, Row Locks, Cache Hit Rate, Transactions, and Max Connections Errors

Synthetic Monitoring (Technology Preview):

  • To support moving a customer's Synthetic Monitoring data to a different region, changes are made to the databases where the definitions of locations and tests are stored. These changes allow easier migration of the Synthetic Monitoring definitions if needed.

  • Added Synthetic tests that are paused to the List of Tests page.

  • Added sort capability to List of Tests

  • The Response Status pie chart on the Synthetic Test Summary page is updated to display the exact HTTP response codes that are returned for the simple ping test.

  • The URLs for the tabs on the Synthetic Monitoring landing page are modified to include the word synthetic in the URL name.

Other improvements

Custom Payload

Custom alert support for IBM i

  • The custom event for inactive job queue Status is added. You can enable or disable the enableInactiveJOBQStatus field in the user_specification:activeJobs:event:enableInactiveJOBQStatus section of the Instana agent configuration file.

Application perspective

  • Fixed an issue that the Analyze services button in the upstream and downstream services list on Instana UI doesn't take into account the upstream and downstream filters.

LDAP configuration

  • Fixed certificate issues with ldaps:// connections on initial handshake.

LDAP group mapping

  • Fixed group mapping evaluation for memberOf attribute.
