IBM Dynamic Partition Manager (DPM), first released with IBM z13®, is changing the administration of the mainframe providing a simplified, consumable, and enhanced user experience via the IBM Z Hardware Management Console (HMC). DPM eliminates the complexity in hardware platform management by moving the complexity from the user into the platform and encapsulating the management of all hardware resources through a single point of control. Smart defaults and system validation additionally increase the user's confidence and proficiency in all management tasks, including partition provisioning, life-cycle, and I/O configuration. DPM significantly reduced barriers to adoption while aligning the platform with industry standards and skills.
Besides the management via the HMC user interface (UI), DPM allows for end-to-end automation. Every task or action that a user can perform in the U/I can be executed via the HMC Web Services APIs, too. The APIs enabled key automation use cases, including resource inventory, provisioning, monitoring, automation, and workload-based optimization among others. Furthermore, the IBM Z HMC collection, along with sample Ansible playbooks, provides Ansible modules that can manage platform resources on IBM Z and LinuxONE machines.
This session shows the power of IBM Dynamic Partition Manager in action and includes the latest IBM z16 and LinuxONE 4 updates.
Presented by Carl Mayer, STSM, IBM Z Platform Management and Development and Walter Niklaus, Firmware architect.
