Attaching Disk-Storage via SCSI over Fibre Channel (FCP) is a fast, flexible and reliable way to access your application-data and store your favorite Linux-Distributions. FCP is available today for all Z and LinuxONE Models, and works with all supported Linux Distributions. In this talk we will introduce basic terminology and function of FCP, to have a common understanding. The focus however will be on how to configure virtual FCP Adapters and SCSI-Disks in Linux in a reliable way, in order to prevent any unscheduled outages for your data-volumes and Linux-images. For this we will cover some basic knowledge about the I/O Configuration that has to be made outside of Linux, how Linux implements path-failover for SCSI-Disks and how to best configure this mechanism so it happens transparently for applications. Further we will explain distribution-independent basics for LUN Management in Linux, and finally how to do an IPL from a SCSI-Disk.
