Provisioning a z/OS software instance using zOSMF Cloud Provisioning Service - "Test-Run of Template" is it SIMULATED or REAL?

Hi,

Have managed to define a Template and LPAR Resource Pool and at the stage of performing a "Test-Run" of the defined Template.

Is the so called "Test Run" a SIMULATED run or is it actually going to attempt to deploy a zOS instance? The doc isn't clear on this at all.

Thanks, Roger

Hello Roger,

"Test Run" is not a simulated run. It performs the workflow to provision z/OS instance. It's a test before publishing template hence called "Test Run". Once template is published, it can be. used by other users in the "tenant" group in the "domain" template is defined. You might have "default" domain and "default" tenant in your environment which comes predefined.

Hi Hiren,

As this will be our first attempt to provision a zOS instance using  zOSMF Cloud Provisioning Service and it will be on a CPC that has active DEVT/TEST LPARs, we are extremely hesitant to see it actually go ahead and perform the provisioning as due to possible misconfiguration on our behalf, we would have a lot of explaining to do to Senior Management as to why the DEVT/TEST environment was impacted or worse.

To minimise such a scenario, we would need to literally have ALL the DEVT/TEST workloads on that CPC to be shutdown - which is a task in itself to get agreement on from all affected stake holders.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Roger
