According to me, the integration has made the MTM much more user-friendly🤝 and more intuitive👌. VSCode provides many extensions which can be used to make our life much easier 💆‍♂️and can be customised to our heart contain😍 .

But, I know there are many people who like the old-school way👾, they prefer the black/blue screen👨‍💻. They are overwhelmed by all GUI components and all the customisations.

What are your views on this topic? Please share I would love to hear from you.
Do you like the integration or you like the black screen❓

By the way, this is my VSCode welcome page, did you like this? You can share your VSCode welcome page too and then we can vote✌ whose is the best😎.

    Hi,
I'm a full stack developer (Java, Angular, React, Ionic,...) and  I've been using editors like Eclipse, Webstorm or VSCode for several years now.

The VSCODE plugin is a real advantage in daily use (Hilight Syntax in REXX/JCL, auto-completion,, ....) but I feel disturbed by the approach which remains very different from classical DEVOPS development on Java or Angular.

I use to work locally on my laptop (With my own Springboot server, my own nodeJS server,....) and I push my development on git when I've finished my feature. The GITLAB CI/CD feature tests, builds and deploys my work on the real infrastructure. With the Open Z Plugin we work on the "real" infrastructure (Not a local one) and it seems a bit disturbing for a classical developer.

ZD&T would be the right solution but what a pity that the product has to be paid for….

The integration has worked nicely for me, but this is my first MTM. My one complaint is that the default VScode prompt used to input the MTM username/password closes if you resize windows, move the cursor out of frame, etc. This restarts the sign in process, which made it hard to keep all my credentials on my laptop screen at once. This is a tiny tiny complaint though, and the VScode setup seems quite practical for use in production :)

I've worked on a 3270 terminal emulator for quite some time and have long found having to switch between a Model 4 terminal (giving move rows) for development or a Model 5 terminal (giving more columns but less rows) for viewing listings/reports  a pain. VS Code gets round the issue with  doing away with the idea of a terminal models.

What I do miss are edit macros and REXX Execs. I did look into how to write an equivalent of an edit macro in VS Code but I think it would mean having to learn Javascript. Not that that's a bad thing, but I can't see my employer moving to VS Code so not worth my time investigating further.

So, a thumbs up from me if I have the time to investigate how to re-write my  ISPF tools on the VS Code platform. If starting from scratch VS Code would be much better than the arcane (though powerful after much practice :) )  ISPF interface to the Mainframe.
