Please excuse me if this is not the correct forum.  Looking for some help.  The task seems simple enough (make the JCL you control match the COBOL you don't).  But all I get are abends.    The COBOL wants to write to a member named COMBINED but the JCL calls the member NAMES.  I change the JCL to no avail.  Sorry if this seem stupid but I cannot progress beyond this point.

    Hi Joseph,

Are you asking about the JCL1 challenge of IBM Z Xplore? If so, the discussion forum have many post on this particular challenge which may interest you. You can access the forum at

But just to give a short overview, JCL1 focuses on solely JCL. You will want to focus your effort there (i.e. modification will only be in the JCL, not the COBOL source). If you have been getting ABENDU4038, that normally means that there is a mismatch between the external data and the COBOL representation of the data. See picture below for a visual representation:

Anyway, the IBM Z Xplore forum will be the perfect place for asking any question on any of the challenges - and you may find your question already asked by someone else previously :)
