    Hi Teri,

Would you be interested in writing a blog to introduce yourself to the group? It could be your journey into tech, what you are looking for from the Student Hub, your favorite thing about tech, and maybe something about your future plans. All you have to do it log in, click contribute, select blog, post a pic of you at the beginning before any text, write your blog or copy/paste it into the window from another document, and it will come straight to me and/or our moderators.

Looking forward to seeing you on the Hub!

    Melissa

    Hi Melissa,

A bit of feedback from myself and my teammates - While we were excited about particiapting in the event, especially after the keynote, the timeline/schedule to complete the project was way too short for the amount of work in conjunction with coordinating a new group. In our case, several members dropped out on day two and since it was over the weekend, it was difficult to coordinate new members with IBM organizers. Moving forward, I would suggest clearer communication before the event and more time (eg. a few weeks) so people can incoporate into their schedule. Perhaps the nature of hackathons are short sprints, but in reality that schedule does not work for most people.

Hackathons are meant to be short sprints and typically run over the weekend. They are usually not weeks in duration. Hopefully you were able to get some meaningful experience out of the short sprint style of a hackathon!

Sure, I understand. I'm a few years removed from undergraduate studies, and even when I did go through undergrad, I worked my PT job 8-10 hours on Saturdays. Perhaps I should consider another type of event that is not a hackathon to build my skills.

Hackathons can be very nuts, especially with the other priorities we have in life. I would recommend checking out some of the recordings and learning journeys here on the Student Hub + we have recordings for our biweekly livestream: StudEntX: for students, with students, and by students. You can find them here by registering for an IBM platform called Expert TV: http://ibm.biz/studentx. If you cannot make the actual event, you can always watch the recording to continue to build your skills on your own time and per what works for you.
