Tomorrow Saturday, Jan 16th, at 14:00 GMT we will host our 3rd session of the Artificial Intelligence series.

Title: How can AI contribute to the Good of Humanity? A Use Case

Bio: A possible use case of AI taking the example of Covid-19 in the healthcare sector: Authorities provide a lot of data (how many cases are in each district, how many beds are occupied in each hospital), but the stakeholders have no proper tool available to analyze and make plans/take actions based on it. How can AI help with that and give a prognosis on the development of the cases and the required number of hospital beds?

Join the discussion with our experts and ask them your questions:
Dr. Eva-Marie Muller-Stuler - Chief Data Scientist, Advanced Analytics & AI Practice leader, GBS at IBM Dubai
Frank van der Wal - EMEA Technical Leader for Data and AI on IBM Z at IBM Amsterdam

Get your free ticket here, and share the event with your friends and fellow students:

A few thoughts about today's session from my side, which was a strange one for me. Not because of the topic, the speakers, or the discussion but because I was at work. Therefore, I was not able to actively participate this time and only enjoyed it as a passenger. However, as expected, my dear teammates @Reema Alsabt and @Mikateko Ngobeni did a wonderful job, although we didn't share hosting responsibilities during this session.

There was a wide variety of questions and topics answered, with quite a balance in AI and IBM Z topics. Dr. Eva-Marie Muller-Stuler taught us a lot about AI, whilst Frank van der Wal gave interesting insight into the IBM Z world.

The technologies mentioned were equally diverse: AI, IBM Z, LinuxONE Cloud, blockchain, encryption, quantum computing, IBM Watson. This proofs that IBM is not this technology dinosaur some people think it is. There is so much to explore in the IBM universe, and the technology is anything but outdated. I could literally see eyebrows being raised in surprise, when Frank mentioned that one can't only run COBOL on IBM Z mainframes but also Python, Javascript, and REXX.

Hearing Eva telling us that music is produced by AI, and in video production it's being used for all the animations showed us that AI is present in areas where we might not have expected it yet. And there is more to come! She said that it will be as important for all of us in the future to be able to use AI as it is now to use computers.

I'm curious about other opinions, and the takeaways of some participants. Please share your thoughts here!

Another great way to make use of AI - by applying it to find new dig sites and make new discoveries. ESA, the European Space Agency, is conducting this interesting workshop on Feb 24th, 2021 from 09:00 till 16:00 CET to talk about earth observation applications and machine learning for cultural heritage preservation: Space for Cultural Heritage workshop
