IBM LinuxONE is a different brand than IBM Z, so you cannot change one into the other. However, there are IBM Z configurations available that look very similar to a LinuxONE from a functionality point of view. Sometimes there are features available for one brand that are not available on the other.
Yes, if you have IFLs in your EC12, you can use them to run Linux workload (with or without z/VM), just like you can on a LinuxONE. But from a Terms and Conditions perspective, the box remains an EC12. I think most, if not all, of the MES options for zEC12/zBC12 have been withdrawn, so you cannot add new processors to the zEC12, but I don't know if you change existing CPs to IFLs. Work with your IBM representative or Business Partner to find out what options are available.

hi,Thank you for your answer, this point you mentioned is understandable to me, but I want to know why in documents we can use the bc12 model as a Linuxone but the EC12 model can not be used If we put all ٍEC12 processors in if IFl, can we use it as a Linuxone?

Hi. No, it will not become a LinuxONE. IBM Z can have various types of CPUs, including IFLs. LinuxONE has only IFLs.

hi there,
I have a question, thank you for helping me, considering that the main difference between Linuxone and z machines is in the IFL cpu, will it become Linuxone if we put 101 IFL in ec12 HA1 model?
Thanks for any help with clarification in advance.
