  • 1.  zHPF documentation

We have an application that uses EXCP channel programs to transfer data to and from storage. We would like to make use of zHPF, where the target storage medium supports it, for improved performance. I have been looking for documentation and although I can find it for zHPF in general I have not been able to find anything that relates to the actual instructions supported by the storage devices, such as the DS8000. Can anyone point me at suitable documentation that will help us make progress with zHPF?

I think you'll find that the channel commands supported by DS8000 hardware are closely guarded IBM secrets. My (admittedly minimal) understanding is that if you have enabled zHPF support in z/OS then the operating system will automatically convert standard channel programs into "transport mode" channel programs on-the-fly (for hardware that supports it) so you should not have to change your programs. The opinion of an IBM subject matter expert should take precedence over mine though!

What I am really looking for is something that will help us map our CCWs in our EXCP channel program into the appropriate TCWs for zHPF.
