  • 1.  Using IDz's Host Connection Emulator - for 3270 Access - File Transfer menu

    Posted Tue July 26, 2022 10:06 AM
    Hello,

Does anybody know if the File Transfer menu is available in the IDz Host Connection Emulator?
From what I've seen, there are barely no menus in the IDz Host emulator. Also, no formatting of font, colors available.

    I appreciate the help.

    Thank you,
    Paula

    Hi Paula,
If you want to transfer files then you can just drag and drop them to/from the Remote System in the Remote Systems view.   Please note that you can also use Preferences > Remote Systems > Files to further control how files will be transferred (Text, Binary, etc.).

I would encourage you to join the Dev & Pipeline community https://www.ibm.com/community/z/software/development-and-pipeline
There you will find many blogs about new IDz updates such as this one for IDz 15.0.4 https://community.ibm.com/community/user/ibmz-and-linuxone/blogs/gerald-mitchell/2022/03/10/new-ibm-developer-for-zos-releases-1504-and-1427

The Host Connection Emulator in IDz is eventually going to be replaced with the new Remote Connection Emulator.  One of the reasons for this is to allow support for changing colors and fonts.

    Hi Bill,

Thank you for the details. I found the file settings in preferences, but I didn't manage to transfer files through drag & drop.
I'm not sure if that can be used to transfer files from Host to local. For example, if I want to get from the host a CNTL or COBOL member from a PDS library. Or if I want to get from the Host a FB/VB dataset and transfer it to my local computer.
Can you please give me some details on how I could do that?

Thank you for the info regarding Dev & Pipeline community. I joined the group.

Thank you so much for your assistance!

    Hi Paula,
You can drag files from Windows File Explorer and drop onto a PDS in the Remote Systems view to create a new member.
You can also drag files from Windows File Explorer and drop onto My Data Sets in the Remote Systems view to create a new Sequential Data Set.

Unfortunately Windows File Explorer does not like Remote z/OS resources being drag and dropped into it, so you could instead use one of these two options:
    1) In the Remote Systems view use the Local connection to find the target folder on your workstation, the select the MVS data set and drag it within the Remote Systems view and drop it into the target Local folder within the Remote Systems view.  One tip would be that when you find the target Local folder, select it and right click to use New > Filter to make it easier and quicker to find when you do the drag and drop.   Please note that you do not have to drag and drop, you could select the PDS member, right click and choose Copy, and then select the Local folder, right click and choose Paste.
    2) In the z/OS Projects view create a local project on your workstation so that you can drag resources from the Remote Systems view and drop them into the local project folder.  If you are using IDz 15 then to create a Local z/OS Project use the File > New > Project... menu action and select z/OS Development > Local z/OS Project.   If you are using IDz 14 then to create a Local z/OS Project use the File > New > Project... menu action and select Workstation COBOL or PL/I > Local Project.
