The number of clients with PL/I as their core applications language on z/OS

My client, CaixaBank, bank #1 in Spain, is eagerly exploring the possibilities that Generative AI offers to modernize their core system. It is evident that COBOL remains the most widely used language, but we lack a clear understanding of the prevalence of PL/I within the banking sector.

Could you kindly provide information on other clients who currently have PL/I in their core banking applications?

KBC in Belgium, and Allied Irish Banks in Ireland were, not sure if they still do, using solely PL/I for their systems, other ones? KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and the Socialist Mutual Health Insurance in Belgium.

    Hi,

in case there is need we can offer to write a compiler/code generator, which generates a Java application out of an existing PL/1 program.

We did this successfully in other fields. I think it will be possible on the Mainframe, too.

On your concrete question the Credit Suisse (now UBS) have a core banking implementation based on PL/1.

    Yours,

    Volker Birk
