    What terminal do you use for tapping into Mainframe? Like a forever use terminal with no expiration or so.

    For testing purposes only.

    What is the process? Do we need to communicate with an IBM Administrator to do it?

    I use X3270 it is open source software and it works well. You can find it here: x3270 download | SourceForge.net.

    I use Vista TN3270 to access my ZD&T system. It's written by a systems programmer, Tom Brennan. It only cost $30.00 USD.

    Give a Look on PW3270... It's an improved fork on X3270 with GTK support for Linux and have a version for Windows too

    Hi John,
    We only provide mainframe access when it's associated with a course, and those courses have an access time of a few weeks.
    Additionally, access to that mainframe is only to be used for the purpose of that course, so if someone were to sign up for the Mainframe Practitioner course, which gives them access, and they start compiling a bunch of programs, their account will be terminated. 
    If you want persistent mainframe access, you should talk to someone in the community at Open Mainframe Project or look into ZD&T.https://www.ibm.com/products/z-development-test-environment

    I use c3270 with -oversize 127x62, which gives a nice big terminal. c3270 is free software and part of the x3270 project:

    c3270 has also been ported to run 'inside' of z/OS as well - so you can ssh into z/OS and then run c3270 against 127.0.0.1. I wrote a blog on it: https://makingdeveloperslivesbetter.wordpress.com/2023/08/08/all-you-need-is-love-ssh/
