  • 1.  Setting up 62 x 160 display in RCE in IDz 16

How do I configure IDz v16 so that I can get the Remote Connection Emulator to provide a 62 x 160 character display?

I notice that the request for this support appears in several enhancement ideas for IDz (one going back to 2013) where they are marked as "delivered", but I can't find any documentation which explains how to set it up. Only having a 24 x 80 screen is a real productivity drain, especially when using SDSF (normally I use PCOMM, which has supported 62x160 for the last ten years) - it's really painful to watch.

Even 27 x 132, though not ideal, would be an improvement...

In IDz version 17.0, support for a 62 x 160 character display in the RCE is available. But this feature will not be included in 16.x, unfortunately.

Though, for IDz version 16.0.5 and higher, you can adjust the screen size by accessing the RCE configuration page, where you'll find a screen size dropdown. This dropdown includes 27 x 132, which, while not a 62 x 160 display, provides an improvement over the default 24 x 80 screen.

Additionally, IDz's Remote Systems view offers robust, modern capabilities for accessing job information and managing tasks that typically reduce the need for SDSF access directly from the emulator. This can enhance productivity by minimizing the dependency on traditional emulator screen sizes.

If you're still using SDSF heavily, you may find this integrated functionality a worthwhile alternative.
