I happened to come across an article by Jon Paris and Gantner about a new release of RDi (version 9.6) that was released in December.  Does this mean that there will be a new version of RBD to match RDi?  Oddly enough when I log into IBM Passport Advantage I don't see an option to download RDi 9.6.

    Hi Michael,

I don't know if there will be a new version of RBD in the next time, sorry.

But could you please share the article?

We are also very interested in news of the RBD.

    Kind Regards!

    Hi Marcel.

Here is the article I was referring to:

    http://ibmsystemsmag.com/ibmi/developer/modernization/whats-new-rdi/?utm_source=SilverpopMailing&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=011718-b_IBMIEXTRA%20(1)%20Live%20Send&utm_content=Article%201%20Title&spMailingID=12762778&spUserID=MTMzNzA3Mjc4MDMzS0&spJobID=1321553747&spReportId=MTMyMTU1Mzc0NwS2

Upon further reading of the announcement letter for RDi 9.6 it states that the EGL version of RDi is staying at 9.5.1.  This has me worried that EGL may be on it's last leg especially with IBM focusing on open source languages like node-js.  I wish IBM would state their plans for support of the language going forward.

    Hi,

some time ago I've heard from an IBM employee that there will be a new version of RBD.

But he did not know at which time.

Maybe here is an IBM employee who could clarify that.

    Kind Regards!

    Hello Marcel.

Yes, there is a new release in the works (likely called 9.6 but not sure the exact number). We are actively working on it.

As you know, IBM has partnered with HCL (a major company) with numerous products including RBD, for taking over the development. That means that development (including myself) is now employed by HCL. It also means great things for these products, as HCL is very eager to improve them. The staff in RBD has been increased with some very talented people and as I mentioned, we are working on the next release. The delay has been mostly due to having to migrate off of IBM systems (including mainframes, builds, etc) to HCL ones. As you can imagine, this has been a large task.

Thank You Jeff for the very good news!

Now when RBD is with HCL, I wonder if RBD Request for Enhancement (RFE) Community stays at developerWorks site, or is it moved to HCL.

The same question is about RBD support (PMR, ...), when new version of RBD is going to be released.

    Sincerely,

    Goran

    Hi Goran.

The PMR and RFE process remains the same: you open them through the normal IBM process. I am not sure if that will ever change, but for now, that is the way to do it.

As for when the next release is coming out: we don't have a date as yet, but you know that we really aren't allowed to be specific until it is announced from official channels. However in this case, we really don't have the date yet. We are working on it.

I look forward also to this new version 9.6. A "little green bird", as we say in Brazil, reported that there will be big news. One of them will be the improvement in working with Mobile in Cordova, which I did testing and particularly found the integration between Android, IOS and Cordova complicated.
    Let's wait and see ..
    Success to all ..

    Hi Nick,

I'm afraid due to a legal constraint associated with IBM, RBD v9.6 has slipped until the end of October.

My apologies to all for the delay.

    Thanks and Regards

    No, unfortunately not...

I've contacted IBM so maybe they fix the broken link...

Maybe you could download it via the Passport Advantage Portal.

    But I've no access...

    Hi Nick,

Thanks for highlighting the download link is broken for the new 9.6 release, I'll request that is fixed asap, my apologies to all.
It will just take you to the same page as per Marcel's link and downloading via Passport Advantage is indeed the way to go.

@Marcel is there a problem with your Passport Advantage account that you don't have access?

I cannot check accounts but I can mail the licencing team on your behalf if your having problems with your login?

    Thanks and Regards

    Hi Mark thanks,

till now we didn't download the RBD via the Passport Advantage.

If I access the site I have to insert a "site number" and a "Business justification" but we do not have a site number?!

We downloaded it via the IBM Entitled Systems Support site because we bought the RBD as a package with IBM i.

But I think IBM changed something there is no RBD anymore...

    Hello all,

I am Indrajit. I am the Development Manager for RBD.

I understand the problem with the broken link. I am working with our documentation team to get the link fixed.

Recently there was a change in the URL format for links in IBM Drupal. So the link appears broken. We are working on updating the links to the new URL format so that it works.

    I will keep you posted.

    Thanks,

    Indrajit
