IBM z/OS Management Facility (z/OSMF)

When I restart current_64 I see ZOSMF is starting now with Java 11. When i start IZUSVR1,, i see it having issues with the IZUDFLT key and can not log on. If I push it to J8.0_64 it works. Was there something that needed to be done to allow ZOSMF to initialize and work?

    Hello Scott,

Would you please let me know the following information about your system:

    1. Which z/OS version are you running on? z/OS V2R5 or z/OS 3.1
    2. When you say "When I restart current_64 I see ZOSMF is starting now with Java 11", do you mean your z/OSMF is started automatically after IPL? that's, did you enable z/OSMF Autostart function?

It looks strange to me because z/OSMF V2R5 runs on Java8 and z/OSMF 3.1 runs on Java11, if your z/OSMF is starting with Java11, it means you are running on z/OSMF 3.1, z/OSMF 3.1 won't work with Java8 (J8.0_64), but it seems z/OSMF works fine when you switch to Java8; if you are running on z/OSMF V2R5 or below, z/OSMF shouldn't start with Java11...the only thing I can think of is that there could be different z/OS versions within your Sysplex and IZUPRMxx was shared by different z/OSMF versions.

Yes we autostart and in RUS maintenance between 2307 and 2311, Java changed Current_64 to Java 11. In our zosmf we had it pointed to Current_64 so that affected our ZOSMF. There was no indication on the Java 11 it was going to change it and from what I have heard, Java 11 and ZOSMF only will run on ZOS 3.1 and higher so you can not assume current_64.

Scott, you are right, you can't assume current_64...I just talked with Java developer, current_64 in general points to the latest version of Java that is installed, that's, if you just install Java8, current_64 will point to Java 8; if you install both Java 8 and 11, current_64 will point to Java 11; if you install Java8/11/17, current_64 will point to Java 17.
Let me know please if this is not true on your system.

You are correct. So when Java Changes the release of Current_64  all java needs to be aware. That was the indicated direction was to use it so that you stayed current with Java, yet seems like IBM is not staying current when it comes to ZOSMF and Java just switched it... Java 11 came with ZOS2.5 so I assumed it was getting ready and did not switch until they knew it was ready to move forward with the least impact.
