New in IBM Z Operational Log and Data Analytics 5.1 Fix Pack 14: Enhanced NetView Netlog configuration for multiple NetView instances

By Zhen Yi Jia posted 17 days ago

In IBM Z Operational Log and Data Analytics 5.1 Fix Pack 14, we enhanced the configuration of the NetView Netlog data stream so that the Log Forwarder can collect NetView Netlog from different domains on different LPARs using the same policy.

Key changes for this function:

  • Change Domain Name to an optional field of the NetView Netlog data stream.
  • Add a new common variable COMMON.HBONETV.SENDER.USDOMAIN for the NetView message provider.

To collect NetView Netlog from different NetView domains in different LPARs by the same policy, complete the following steps:

1.    Configure a NetView Netlog data stream for multiple LPARs

In a multiple LPARs environment, the NetView instance on each LPAR might have different domain names. Therefore, you should not specify the NetView domain to collect data.

In the configuration window, leave the Domain Name field empty.

2.    Configure the NetView message provider

If the domain name is not given, the COMMON.HBONETV.SENDER.USDOMAIN variable in the CNMSTYLE member should be set to F, so that the Log Forwarder and the NetView message provider can communicate with each other.

Figure 2 shows the variables in the CNMSTYLE member.

After you run the NetView message provider with this configuration, it prints a message HBOL009I: The NetView message provider (HBONETV) will send data to receiver HBONETVW.
