Dear System Automation users:

Please check out the recent service updates of IBM Z System Automation 4.2, including OA59957 (Processor Operations enhancements) and OA59243 (end-to-end automation enhancements).

OA59957 – Processor Operations Enhancements

  • Faster PROFILE OPEN and CLOSE operations
You can speed up PROFILE OPEN and CLOSE operations by setting the new global variable AOF_AAO_ISQ_APROF_AUTOOPEN to Y. With this setting, regular PROFILE OPEN and CLOSE commands can perform faster in your existing automation routines, as profiles are actually opened only once at the connection start.

  • A new option to disable ICMP ECHO requests (PINGs)
If ICMP ECHO requests (PINGs) are not allowed for security considerations in your company, you can disable them by setting the new global variable AOF_AAO_ISQ_DISABLE_ICMP_PING to Y. To switch IP addresses after ICMP PINGs are disabled, the ISQIPSWT FORCE (YES) command is required.

OA59243 – End-to-End Automation Enhancements
  • Optional to use the NetView Event/Automation Service (E/AS) as message broker.
Using the NetView Event/Automation Service (E/AS) as message broker is now optional. If E/AS is not available, an own communication channel between the primary system automation agent and the end-to-end automation adapter will be established that requires no further configuration.

  • E2E automation manager can show correct status of a referenced resource.

To resolve the conflicting goals of different SA z/OS automation domains, a new advanced automation option AOF_E2E_REMOTE_REQ_PROPAGATION is introduced. Set it to YES to activate the propagation of START/STOP requests on a remote resource to the corresponding REF resource. Therefore, the E2E automation manager knows about requests of a local automation manager and thus is enabled to show the correct status of a referenced resource.

  • Improved communication between E2E automation manager and SMU.
The E2E automation adapter can optionally provide its IP address instead of its hostname, when joining SMU. You can achieve this behavior by setting the new option eez-remote-contact-hostname-resolve-ip to true.
