Top Takeaways from Fintech and the Female Economy with Financial Alliance for Women

On July 9th Start-ups with Sassi & Ralls held a virtual session with “Financial Alliance for Women”, A leading members’ network of financial organizations dedicated to championing the female economy—the world’s largest, fastest-growing market, and yet one that remains. untapped. As a unique network with members from over 135 countries, we share the ambition of unlocking the full value of the female economy.

The “Financial Alliance for Women” follows a win-win approach where financial organizations grow their businesses by accelerating women’s financial power. From creating real and digital platforms where members can learn from each other’s on the ground experiences, to publishing our own proprietary data and research and advocating for global policy change, everything we do is intended to inspire and equip our members as they design and refine women-centered products, services, and strategies to bring about a new paradigm in women’s financial experiences.

The Start-ups with Sassi & Ralls hosted Financial Alliance for Women CEO “Inez Murray”, Manager, Peer Learning and Marketing “Carine Fersan” and “Rachel Freeman” the Chief Growth Officer of Tyme to touch upon the intersection between female economy and fintech and how can we work to bridge the gap by creating fruitful collaborations to attract more women into fintech.

The IBM Hyper Accelerator Program Chief Penguin “Melissa Sassi” and the Chief Technical Penguin of IBM “Aaron Ralls” gave a great kick-start to the conversation highlighting 2019 results about diversity and inclusion in the HPA last cohort, having 50% of start-ups applying featuring female founders and 40% having black founders.

Mission in Action

The conversation continued with “Inez Murray”, underlining the inspiration behind the organization’s actions on-ground of aspiring to leverage fintech into playing a key role in female financial security and empowering people to self-manage their finances.

In addition, “Carine Fersan” emphasized the importance of financial inclusion campaigns from a global perspective targeting underserved women in the economy by offering them access to financial and non-financial advisory support enabling them to get out of poverty.

We can state that the ultimate goal the Alliance is hoping to achieve is to work with their partners from financial institutions, fintech start-ups, and programs like the Hyper-Protect Accelerator to impact more women across the globe through their members.

Rachel Freeman” continued the discussion by giving her perspective on how Tyme worked to present a digital solution to underrepresented communities by offering a financial experience that is inclusive and affordable to the local community.

On that occasion, “Melissa Sassi” and “Rachel Freeman” underlined the difference of fintech adoption between genders and the challenge that females face to have access to funds like their male counterparts.

Lastly, Financial Alliance for Women CEO “Inez Murray” introduced the concept of their Hackathon that aims to mobilize fintech’s to penetrate the female economy market space. You can check more information about the hackathon here and you can apply here.

This is just a small sampling of the vast amount of ideas addressed and the challenges revealed in this episode of Sassi & Ralls.
