Tune it up!
How should you tune your IMS databases?
This course covers what you need to know to evaluate the performance of your IBM® Information Management System (IMS™) databases and then shows you how to select access methods, parameters, and other functions that will tune those databases to optimize their efficiency.
You’ll review methods for evaluation:
You’ll look at sample database information to see where improvements can be made:
You’ll review the various database environments and components that can affect performance:
What's in the course?
This advanced, 36-hour course describes how to tune IBM® Information Management System (IMS™) databases. It also discusses IMS database options that affect performance such as data set considerations and buffering for Virtual Storage Access Method (VSAM) and Overflow Sequential Access Method (OSAM) databases.
Prerequisites
You should have experience as an IMS database administrator and working knowledge of maintaining and configuring IMS full-function databases.
It’s also recommended that you watch the videos for Physical Organization of Databases or have equivalent working experience.
Learning objectives
After completing this course, you should understand how to:
- Analyze performance data about the IMS database environment
- Choose IMS access methods and options that provide the best database performance
- Improve performance by selecting database buffer pools and buffer pool options and with appropriate data set access methods and storage attributes
- Implement the optimum performance options for VSAM and OSAM data sets and buffers
- Evaluate the need for secondary indexes and select options to improve their performance
If you successfully complete the course, you'll get a digital badge!
You'll need an IBM account to enroll in the course and a Credly account to accept the badge.
