Hello everyone! I'm Melina, a Mainframe Intern form Argentina. I wanted to talk about how much my Internship expereience has been improved by IBM Z Xplore, since starting my journey as a zSystems Student Ambassador.
When I started as an Intern, a few months ago, I knew very little about Enterprise Computing. I knew of Mainframes, but not much else. As I took the mandatory courses, I began to understand what made them such an essential piece of many industries. As an electronic engineer student, the hardware architecture was what really caught my eye. But when I actually started using a mainframe, it was a bit difficult for me, as I was not used to working with 3270 terminals but my mentors were, so they showed me how to use it.
When I found out about Z Xplore and the Student Ambassador program, I saw it as a chance to improve my knowledge while helping fellow classmates learn about zSystems. So when I started using Z Xplore, I saw a new perspective, centered towards modernization. I started using Zowe, which I was way more familiar with, and mentioned to my mentors about installing it on the server we use.
Z Xplore has given me a new mindset, as well as a chance to show my mentors new tools that they were not familiar with. As the z Systems and programs modernize, Z Xplore has helped me test my knowledge by using the learning sessions and Toolkits, that are very detailed and easy to understand. Z Xplore is a great tool to practice, thanks to the lab environment and learn about the different ways and programs you can run in a mainframe.
If you haven't checked Z Xplore, I strongly suggest you do.
Thanks for reading!
