IBM hat im Jahr 2022 die aktuelle Db2 für z/OS Version 13 vorgestellt. Natürlich beinhaltet die Db2 Version 13 wieder umfangreiche Neuerungen in den Bereichen Skalierbarkeit, Performance, Anwendungsverfügbarkeit – aber dieses Mal auch KI. Im Rahmen dieser Community haben wir bereits mehrfach erläutert, wie man in Db2 gespeicherte Daten in ein sog. „Large Database Model (LDM)“ überführen kann, um Zusammenhänge in den Db2-Daten zu erkennen, die mit herkömmlichem SQL verborgen bleiben. Nachdem in den letzten Jahren der Fokus bei der Diskussion der LDMs auf der Identifikation von Use Cases lag, hat das sog. Db2 „SQL Data Insights“ in 2025 einen Schub in Bezug auf Operationalisierung, Automatisierung und APIs erfahren.
Aber nicht nur für SQL Data Insights hat Db2 neue Funktionen bereitgestellt. Pro Jahr macht IBM zwei Db2 „Function Level“ und eine Vielzahl von „non-function-level-dependent“ PTFs verfügbar, um Db2 kontinuierlich an die Requirements des Maktes anzupassen und weiterzuentwickeln. Aktueller Db2 Function Level: 507. Mit Db2 13 wurde das Konzept der Migration auf die neue Db2 Version überarbeitet und stark vereinfacht. Hauptaugenmerk dabei war, die Migration für die mit Db2 arbeitenden Anwendungen so reibungslos wie möglich zu machen, und die Verfügbarkeit der Anwendungen bei optimaler Performance auch während des Umstieges auf die neue Db2 Version zu gewährleisten. Viele Kunden in DACH haben die Migration auf Db2 13 bereits erfolgreich durchgeführt und aktuelle Db2 Function Level aktiviert. IBM hat bereits vor längerer Zeit den 31.12.2025 als „End-of-Support“ Datum der Vorgängerversion Db2 for z/OS Version 12 angekündigt. Db2 für z/OS IBM Roadshow im Mai in Böblingen
Das deutschsprachige Team der Db2-Spezialisten der IBM lädt im Mai zur Db2 für z/OS Roadshow ins IBM Development Center in Böblingen ein. Während des zweitägigen Events stellen wir Neuigkeiten der aktuellen Db2 13 Function Level vor, werfen einen Blick auf das Db2 Tooling (speziell auf Alternativen des nicht mehr verfügbaren Data Studios) und präsentieren, wie in Db2 gespeicherte Daten für Analytics, Cloud-Anwendungen, KI-Systeme etc. bereitgestellt und genutzt werden können. Wie Db2-Daten für ein offenes Data Lakehouse bereitgestellt werden können kann optional „Hands-on“ ausprobiert werden. IDUG „dahoam“ im Oktober in Düsseldorf
Nach der COVID-Zwangspause ist die europäische IDUG-Konferenz in den letzten beiden Jahren bereits wieder durchgestartet – mit jeweils vollem Auditorium in Prag (2023) und in Valencia (2024). In diesem Jahr findet die europäische IDUG-Konferenz im Oktober in Düsseldorf statt. Wir gehen davon aus, dass sich viele deutschsprachige Kunden auf den Weg ins Rheinland machen werden. Ggf. ist der kurze Weg eine gute Gelegenheit, Db2-Nachwuchsexperten an die IDUG-Community heranzuführen. IDUG bietet insbesondere für „First-Time-Attendees“ reduzierte Eintrittspreise an.
