z/Action! for October: JES3-plus I/O Improvements

By Lee Sullivan posted Fri October 08, 2021 04:14 PM

The sixth episode of the z/Action! channel on IBM Expert TV broadcasts Thursday, October 28.
We invite you to join some of the world's most innovative companies as they share how they're expanding horizons and driving success with IBM Z. This month’s episode focuses on changes in the JES3plus SPOOL I/O.

JES3plus I/O Improvements
Since its initial release in April 2020, JES3plus has been steadily enhanced to provide superior I/O performance characteristics.  IBM's existing ECKD (Enhanced Count-Key-Data) I/O was first improved to use ACKD (Advanced CKD) I/O and eventually full zHPF (IBM Z High Performance FICON) support was implemented and delivered to customers.  This session will provide some high-level background on the evolution of mainframe DASD I/O, from the early days of the bus & tag cables to what we use today. Then we'll go through a detailed explanation of what was changed in JES3plus SPOOL I/O and why those changes perform better than the original ECKD I/O implementation.

Join Ed Jaffe, CTO of Phoenix Software, for this technical examination of the JES3plus I/O.
