Optimizing and Modernizing Business Processes with IBM Host Access Transformation Services (HATS)

In a modern world, many companies still rely on manual processes to perform even the most basic functions of their business. This may happen because companies rely on older, but still reliable systems that both contain and process their data.

One such company is a large supplier of electronic parts and components. This company had a system that included multiple interfaces for fulfilling orders and employees were challenged with an almost completely manual purchasing process. Order entry, customer service, and invoicing were all performed manually. For example:

  • Part numbers were entered from a printed spreadsheet
  • Order history was checked using raw data
  • Orders in progress were saved manually
  • Large orders were manually broken down into multiple smaller orders

The solution was the introduction of IBM’s Host Access Transformation Services (HATS), a product that allowed the company to modernize and optimize their purchasing process, while saving costs by maintaining existing systems. HATS replaced green screen and manual processes with a modern and familiar GUI navigation for specific tasks and data, tailored for specific users, all while using the same reliable systems in the back end

Upon deployment of HATS, the company’s employees were able to benefit immediately from the new process. Employees were able to work more easily and efficiently, reducing 5 hours of work to less than 2 and productivity was increased by 60 to 70%.
