The z/TPF real-time insights dashboard starter kit was enhanced to improve usability and resource usage.
The z/TPF real-time insights dashboard starter kit provides a sample analytics pipeline that is available for use with real-time runtime metrics collection, which was delivered with APAR PJ45657. Previously, the sample pipeline in the starter kit used Apache Spark to process continuous data collection (CDC) and name-value pair collection results. APAR PJ46275 provided support for system-wide JVM monitoring and the z/TPF real-time insights dashboard starter kit sample was updated to use a Python script container to process the JVM data.
With this latest update to the starter kit, the sample pipeline was updated to use the Python script for all processing, which provides a number of benefits:
- The starter kit is easier to deploy on a Linux® on IBM® Z system.
- The starter kit sample pipeline uses less memory and resources on the analytics server. In our testing, we found that the analytics processing used 100 times less memory and CPU.
- The starter kit has fewer components, which makes it easier to administer.
- The analysis components are more stable.
The z/TPF real-time insights dashboard starter kit was also enhanced to provide user exits so that you can maintain your own modifications to the analysis processing more easily.
