Considerations for using z/TPF Low Priority(LP)

z/TPF supports the designation of utilities as low priority. While this support was released several years ago, customers have been hesitant to implement this functionality. As this is a deviation from the traditional workload scheduling algorithm where all ECBs are treated equally, it is important to understand the fundamental behavior of applications and how marking them as low priority may benefit or impact the system as a whole. This paper addresses many of these concepts and will assist the z/TPF client in determining which applications should be classified as low priority.
