A New home for the IBM Z and LinuxONE Container Image Registry

Eight months ago we created an early access program for the IBM Z and LinuxONE Container Image Registry, and today we're announcing that it has a new, permanent home at https://ibm.biz/BdfAdW.

There are several key enhancements we've made to this new permanent site over the early access interface:
  • All of the images in the registry have been updated to the latest versions.
  • We've added 3 new images - TensorFlow, CouchDB, and OpenLiberty.
  • Better integration of vulnerability reports with container images details pages.
  • Github integration for requesting additions and reporting problems.

The backend operation of the registry remains the same.  The registry is still hosted at the IBM Cloud Container Registry (icr.io), and access to it from the Docker or Podman command lines remains the same.  If you have participated in the early access program before, things should look and feel familiar.

Behind the scenes we're extending the automation of our pipelines and workflows so that we can continue to accommodate new image requests and improve version currency.  In addition, security remains a constant focus.  We are on a journey to make the best security practices of the IBM Z and Open Source communities part of a new standard operating procedure that reduces everyone's exposure to malicious content and threat actors.

The IBM Z platform has a long history of open source participation, and we're excited to take this next step to deepen Z Systems' integration with the enterprise open source environment.
