Announcing IBM SDK for Node.js - z/OS, vNext Beta is now available!

We would like to announce IBM SDK for Node.js - z/OS, vNext Beta is now available! This beta is a full port of the Node.js v16.5.0 community release.  To ensure that IBM is continuing to focus on features and functions that are important to our clients, we encourage participation in our beta programs. Our beta programs require no fee to enroll and give you an opportunity to influence development, and to gain awareness of new product features and potential enhancements.

Notable Node.js community updates include: 

  • V8 Javascript Engine is updated to version 9.1 (previously 8.4)
  • Node package manager (npm) is updated to version 7.19.1 (previously version 6.14.13)
  • The Timers Promises API is now a stable feature
  • Node-API updated to version 8 (previously version 6)

Notable z/OS specific updates vs Node.js V14 GA: 

  • ~10% reduction in shared module size 
  • The full set of ICU data is now available, enabling support for all locales
  • Ability to override the default CCSID for STDIO file descriptors via environment variables
  • ZOSLIB environment variables can now be changed during execution of a Node.js application
  • Improvements in memory allocation and overall quality 
  • Enabled OpenSSL secure memory on z/OS.  For more details, visit:
