OMEGAMON Data Provider released it’s twelfth functional update in January as APAR OA67207/PTF UJ96586. Good news is that this particular APAR is not disruptive in comparison to the last APAR shipped. However, if you have not done service in a while, you may need to perform some migration tasks. Please check the documentation here to see if a migration is necessary. In addition, a new exploiter of ODP was released in February. It is the IBM Db2 Log Analysis tool.
What’s new in ODP update 12
OMEGAMON Data Broker
ODP now ships the Zowe Cross Memory server at a Zowe 3.0.0 level. If you are using the Zowe Cross Memory server that ships with ODP, this will automatically be upgraded and no activity is required on your part. This is the recommended approach as in the past, the Zowe product offerings had some incompatible changes. If you are using the product version of the Zowe Cross Memory server, you should use the ODP shipped version instead or do an upgrade via the open source version of Zowe V3. Again, we encourage you to use the ODP shipped version. It can coexist with any Zowe product levels.
OMEGAMON Data Connect
In APAR OA65724 the configuration parameter connect.event-publisher.queue-capacity
was changed from 1,000,000 to 50,000. With the additional exploiters of ODP, which happen at a much higher frequency than existing OMEGAMON agents, it was realized this parameter was too low. As a result, the default value has been returned to 1,000,000. This should reduce any data loss when there are large spikes in streaming activity.
Db2 Log Analysis Tool
In February 2025, a service update to Db2 Log Analysis Tool V3.6 was introduced that exploits ODP to stream metrics to analytics platforms. Unfortunately, the documentation has not been updated yet. When it is, you'll be able to find it here. ODP exploitation is described as a two-phase operations. Log Analysis Tool is a batch job. The first step or phase is used to identify what metrics should be collected. For ODP exploitation, a second step or phase is added that identifies a target OMEGAMON Data Broker and its associated store from which those captured metrics will be streamed. Log Analysis Tool includes a JAR file that must be loaded into a directory for OMEGAMON Data Connect. This JAR file will provide the transformation information for the metrics to be sent out in JSON format to analytics platforms.
Other exploiters of ODP
A number of other products have been introduced over the last six months that exploit ODP as well.
Db2 Query Monitor V3.4
This was released in 2024. Documentation can be found here. Query Monitor leverages ISPF and parameter files to set up the proper configuration for its metrics to stream to an OMEGAMON Data Broker. Presently, the following metrics can be streamed:
Interval metrics: ODP_PUBLISH_INTERVALS
Summary metrics: ODP_PUBLISH_SUMMARIES
SQLCODES metrics: ODP_PUBLISH_SQLCODES
Exception metrics: ODP_PUBLISH_EXCEPTIONS
Db2 Automation Expert
Also released in the last six months, documentation for Db2 Automation Expert V1.1 can be found here. This is also set up via JCL where the OMEGAMON Data Broker set up is identified. A JAR file will need to be added to a directory in OMEGAMON Data Connect to facilitate the translation of the raw metrics into JSON. The following metrics are streamable:
Real-time statistics: SYSIBM.SYSTABLESPACESTATS and SYSIBM.SYSINDEXSPACESTATS
Utility history (requires Db2 13 function level 501 or later): SYSIBM.SYSUTILITIES
Utility object-level history (requires Db2 13 function level 504 or later): SYSIBM.SYSOBJEVENTS
OMEGAMON V6.1’s
As the new version 6 instances of OMEGAMON agents are introduced, they enable streaming data to OMEGAMON AI Insights for some modeling and predictive analytics. ODP is included with the agents in order to stream the data to an Elasticsearch instance used by OMEGAMON AI insights. Click on each link below to get to their user guide.
Summary
ODP continues to be enhanced and more usage is constantly being identified. Additional information continues to be available in our Master blog at here.
