Red Hat OpenShift 4.12 available on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE

Many clients run in production with Red Hat OpenShift on the IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE platforms, and customer interest continues to grow. The unique combination of Red Hat OpenShift and these platforms provide an on-premises cloud environment with outstanding capabilities.

Red Hat OpenShift automates the creation, provisioning, and life cycle management of cloud-native applications and augments Kubernetes capabilities with additional features. It comes with an integrated architecture for high availability, always monitoring and helping ensure the cluster is available, operating, and dynamically adjust their size as business needs demand.

IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE are known for their security capabilities, low latency when connecting workloads on the platform, and highly efficient resource utilization, resulting in  sustainability through carbon reduction, and reduced operational effort per workload.

Red Hat OpenShift 4.12 exploit platform attributes by deploying Red Hat OpenShift clusters in a Secure Execution environment, which is available today as an IBM technical preview. This is an important security feature, since Secure Execution provides a KVM-based, trusted execution environment (TEE) that is designed to help protect and isolate workloads on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE. Red Hat OpenShift in the Secure Execution environment is fully integrated into Red Hat OpenShift, and management of a Secure Execution-based cluster is the same as of a standard Red Hat OpenShift cluster.

In addition, Red Hat OpenShift 4.12 includes new functions for the IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE platforms, such as the descheduler operator, scheduler profiles, Cron Job support, support for the Stream Control Transmission Protocol, and container support for IPv6.

OpenShift platform enhancements include Red Hat OpenShift Pipelines (Tekton) 1.9.0, Red Hat OpenShift Do (odo) 3.5.0, Red Hat OpenShift Serverless 1.26, and Red Hat OpenShift Service Mesh 2.3, as well as enhancements to the compliance operator, and logging and monitoring operator, which are all available for use on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE.

Bottom line, the unique value of running Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Z and IBM LinuxONE improved again, helping IT organizations to accelerate their transformation with flexibility and agility through integrated tooling and a security-focused and resilient foundation for cloud-native development and deployment.
