Ubuntu 22.04 LTS released for IBM zSystems and LinuxONE

  

Today the Ubuntu community and Canonical released the latest Long Term Support edition of Ubuntu Linux: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish)



With the IBM z16 release announcement this month as well, on April 5th, it's an exciting time to be an Ubuntu user in the IBM zSystems ecosystem.

In order to support the IBM z16 out of the box upon release, the engineers at Canonical were sure to support not only the core system, but peripherals and special facilities like the latest Crypto Express8S (CEX8S) card, which will help support the new quantum-safe technologies, and the new IBM Telum processor, which includes the IBM Z Integrated Accelerator for AI.

Indeed, on April 5th Frank Heimes of Canonical posted a pair of blog posts specifically highlighting the features including in Ubuntu 22.04 beta for release:

Today, for release day, more details were released about other improvements, including for the IBM z13 and newer systems, on the Ubuntu on Big Iron blog: Ubuntu 22.04 LTS got released. This blog post will also give you details on how to download the ISO for s390x.
