Optimize IMS Transaction Performance Management with IBM Z IntelliMagic Vision for z/OS

IBM just announced the availability of IBM Z IntelliMagic Vision for z/OS v1.1.1. Read the announcement here.

Back in July, I was excited about a Statement of Direction issued by IBM about the coming support for IMS Transaction workloads in IBM Z IntelliMagic Vision for z/OS:read more here

The support of IMS Transaction workloads, along with other improvements is now available as part of this new release.

Existing IntelliMagic Vision capabilities (e.g., intuitive graphical interface, dynamic report navigation, context sensitive drill downs, intuitive report customization capabilities), can now also be applied to enhance performance management of business-critical IMS transaction workloads.

User value :

Enhance ability to identify response time or CPU usage issues in IMS transaction workloads and expedite root cause analysis

Adding IMS transaction support enhances collaboration across technical teams by providing a single integrated interface that can be used by technical support specialists in other disciplines across the z/OS platform

Identify “normal” performance and usage profiles as basis for comparison against current behaviors

The most important improvement, on top of IMS Transaction support, is the possibility to perform the performance analysis from business perspective. More in detail, the users of IBM Z IntelliMagic Vision for z/OS are now able to specify the Line of Business, Application Domain, Applications attributes for:

Jobs/Address Spaces, Service Classes and Report Classes, Db2 Transactions, CICS Transactions

Dynamic reports based on the Line of Business, Application Domain, Applications available in the Web reporter

User value :

Highlight problematic infrastructure areas from business perspective

Monitor CPU increase per Application by DDF transaction that are typically coming from off-platform.

Easily identify response time and CPU differences due to application modernization/new releases

Triage issues with transactions by business criticality
