Statement of direction: IMS support in IntelliMagic Vision for z/OS

I am really excited to share this Statement of Direction about adding support for IMS transaction metrics to enhance performance management in IBM Z IntelliMagic Vision for z/OS.

Back in April, we announced IBM Z IntelliMagic Vision for z/OS, the first release as IBM of this modern mainframe performance management tool. It is easy to consume, even more so thanks to the cloud-hosted offering, easy to learn - I have experienced this first-hand as I am learning how to use it to deliver proper demos of the product - full of rich, built-in expertise that augments the team expertise. If you missed it, you can read the first release here.

Since then, I have had the opportunity to talk about IBM Z IntelliMagic Vision for z/OS’s product capabilities and value with several customers, and I have been excited to see the really positive feedback on it from z/OS performance audiences. On the other hand, as expected, from time to time, I received requests for improvements and enhancements due to specific customer needs.

One of the most frequently requested enhancements that I have received from these customer interactions always came about once I reached this slide of the presentation:

“What about IMS support?” Since the beginning of the IBM journey, and indeed, even prior to the acquisition, IMS support was in the product roadmap. After the acquisition, adding IMS support was highly prioritized, and I’m excited that we are now able to preannounce it.

As per the Statement of Direction, this important enhancement will be available in the 4th quarter of this year. Don’t miss to register for our webinar already scheduled on October 17th where @Todd Havekost and I will talk about IMS transaction support, and provide a demo of the capabilities being delivered. Learn more about the webinar and register here.

Another need that current and prospective customers have is in understanding the business impact of a performance degradation or problem. To help on this aspect, as documented in the same Statement of Direction, in the 2nd quarter of this year (so really soon) IBM plans on adding the support for reporting at the business application level in the product. Stay tuned for the announcement of the feature.
