Destination z Membership Grows to Over 5,000

With $5,000, I can take my family on a beachside vacation. With 5,000 trees, I have a forest. When a child turns 13, he/she has lived almost 5,000 days. Why is 5,000 significant? Today, we have reached a major milestone: More than 5,000 Destination z members in our online community.

When launched in July 2011, it had a few business partner members. Since then membership has grown to 5,106 and includes mainframe clients, IBMers, academia members and business partners. I remember meetings where we discussed ways to spread the word. It was slow-going at first, but it quickly gained ground.

This momentum is largely due to the site’s many popular features. The exclusive editorial content focuses around the mainframe solution and has several sub-topics. That content appears in our monthly DzInsider e-newsletter, which publishes the first Thursday of each month. In addition to Evangelizing Mainframe, a blog written by our staff and several notable community members, we also provide feeds to IBM mainframe blogs and Twitter feeds. Our z&A forum is designed for new customers as well as veterans, and the Partners section offers access to IBM z Systems solution providers from around the globe. You can also check out the academic resources. Last but not least, we just launched a new Resource Center to aggregate and curate content of interest to those new to z Systems.

To help members get to know one another, we feature a regular Member Spotlight where we highlight first jobs and mainframe memories. Our caricature gallery is a fun way to see community members who have visited the Destination z booth at various conferences.

We’re excited by the growth of the Destination z membership. As we mark this milestone, we’re looking toward our ultimate goal of reaching every member of the mainframe community. Help us out. If you haven’t checked out the site in a while, take a look around and see all it has to offer. And if you know other mainframers, students interested in computer science and business partners ask them if they belong to Destination z, if not, invite them to join. Thanks for your support!
