What's new in IBM Application Performance Analyzer for z/OS® Version 14.2.4?

  

The IBM Application Performance Analyzer for z/OS® (aka "APA") team has been burning the midnight oil these last few months in order to deliver our latest Continuous Delivery (CD) update.  If you’re receiving our notifications, then you already know version 14.1 has been updated with our 14.1.11 release.  If you aren’t receiving notifications, be sure to subscribe via our support page (Home>Other>My Notifications)!

As of today, we are pleased to announce general availability of IBM Application Performance Analyzer for z/OS® version 14.2.4.  In this latest release we’ve worked hard to deliver enhancements requested by real users, like yourself.  We’ve also delivered some fixes for both 14.1.11 and 14.2.4.  Without further ado, let’s take a look.


In 14.2.4 (APAR details), we’ve delivered the following enhancements and fixes:

Enhancements

  • Enhanced CICS filtering capabilities in the ISPF interface
  • A new Core ID table, related to Simultaneous Multi-threading (SMT) has been added to the S08: Processor Utilization Summary report (RFE delivered to government customer)
  • Java version information has been added to the J01: Java Summary and Attributes report
  • Addition of a scroll indicator to the content menu of the R02: Observation Session List
  • Added support for multiple sample files to the Batch Import function
  • Added support of RACF authorization for Multi-Job requests
  • A new feature for customization of Job cards in the dialog panel of the A02: Request Printed Reports report
  • Added samples for emailing reports via Automatic Report Generation (ARG) feature
  • CORE ID, Vertical Priority, Hiperdispatch, and SMT2 information are now included in the S01: Measurement Profile and S08: Processor Utilization Summary reports (If you aren't familiar with SMT they you can read up about it in the following RedPapers, here and here.) 
  • WLM Service Class can now be found in the S01: Measurement Profile report
  • Issue messages CAZ0072I/CAZ0073I to both STC (Started Task) and target joblogs (RFE 21349 – Bank of Nova Scotia)
  • Standardize APA Write to Operator (WTO) messages to better support a client’s system automation initiatives
  • Added Source Program Mapping support for applications running in RMODE64

Fixes/Corrections

  • Looping in the APA STC when measuring a batch job
  • S0D6 abend in R02 Observation List
  • More intelligent handling of lost STC connection conditions in ISPF Interface (to avoid navigation/selection of measurements in cases where the selected STC is not active)
  • Add VOLSER to RACF call for discrete DSN profiles
  • Instances where various OP codes were not displaying in C09: CPU Usage by PSW/Object Code report
  • S001 abend in the GRHS/CDS subtask
  • S913 abend in the ISPF interface when a user is not authorized to view/retrieve a sample file
  • SC78 abend during shutdown when in SYSPLEX mode
  • The message number CAZI1709W for the CRAG command
  • A dynamic allocation error in the dialog for Job JCL of the A06

And in 14.1.11 (APAR details), our team delivered the following updates:

Fixes/Corrections 

  • The format of the version number for product registration
  • The disassembly of some instructions not displaying in C09: CPU Usage by PSW/Object Code report       
  • A log allocation error in Common Server Extension
  • Suppressed message IEC190I in the Common Server Extension
  • S0C3 abend in the Batch interface when the request number > MAXREQ
  • S0D6 abend in the ISPF interface of the R02: Observation Session List
  • Improved handling of lost STC connection conditions in the ISPF interface (to avoid navigation/selection of measurements in cases where the selected STC is not active)
  • S913 abend in the ISPF interface when a user is not authorized to view/retrieve a sample file
  • Installed the IEFUSI exit program CAZ00990 at SYSOMVS.IEFUSI
  • Removed method name from the JITCM detail window
