New updates in IBM Z Monitoring Suite 1.3.1 (5698-B66) release

IBM Z® Monitoring Suite 1.3.1 release includes updates to IBM® Tivoli® Composite Application Manager (ITCAM) for Application Diagnostics on z/OS® V7.1.1 enabling history to be stored in Persistent Data Store Version 2 datasets.

Version 2 of the persistent data store (PDS V2) replaces the original persistent data store (PDS V1). PDS V2 is used for short term history, it improves performance and reduces use of virtual storage.

There are no configuration changes required to use PDS V2. If the agent for ITCAM for Application Diagnostics on z/OS is on a z/OS image of 2.2 or higher, then PDS V2 will automatically be used instead of the original PDS.

The PDS V1 datasets may be deleted after migration to PDS V2.

Required maintenance to support this release:

  • PARMGEN and IBM Z Monitoring Configuration Manager:

    PTF UJ09486 for APAR OA63790
    - upgrading to ITCAM for Application Diagnostics on z/OS V7.1.0 to V7.1.1 to exploit PDS V2 requires updates to PARMGEN and IBM Z Monitoring Configuration Manager files.

IBM Z Monitoring Suite combines the necessary breadth and depth of resource monitoring of the IBM OMEGAMON® family with IBM Service Management Unite Enterprise Edition (designed to provide a comprehensive IT operations dashboard and problem isolation environment), linking monitoring, scheduling, and automation. In addition, IBM Z Monitoring Suite includes IBM Resource Measurement Facility, which provides a data collection capability in a one-time charge licensing option.

IBM Z Monitoring Suite provides real-time and historical monitoring and availability management of critical z/OS infrastructure and key subsystems, such as IBM CICS®, IBM Information Management System (IMS®), IBM Db2®, IBM WebSphere® Application Server for z/OS, and IBM MQ for z/OS.
