Remote Connection Emulator's Glow-Up
The Remote Connection Emulator (RCE) has undergone a significant transformation with the latest release of IBM Developer for z/OS 16.0.5, offering a host of new features and enhancements designed to improve usability and functionality.
- Simplified User Interface
- Efficient Connection Configuration: The connection configuration page, now called "profile," consolidates settings previously split between tabs and slider windows into a single, user-friendly page.
- Easier Access and Management: Users can now easily access multiple profiles and delete them as needed, streamlining the setup process for different remote sessions.
- Expanded Functions
- Bidirectional Language Support: RCE now correctly renders Hebrew characters, supports bidirectional functions on the secondary keyboard, and includes various bidirectional actions that can be mapped to keyboard keys.
- Enhanced Screen Rendering: Features like Screen Reverse, RTL screen rendering, and proper delete and backspace direction in RTL screens are now supported.
- Smart Card Connectivity: Users can connect to remote systems using smart cards, enhancing security and convenience.

- Improved Display and Functionality: RCE now correctly displays angle brackets and enclosed strings, prevents cursor movement to invalid locations, processes CICS transaction IDs accurately, and offers performance improvements and better copy-paste functionality.

ZUnit Is Chillin’
ZUnit is officially deprecated, and IBM Test Accelerator for Z is the recommended replacement. Test Accelerator for Z offers unit through integration testing for z/OS applications, plus it supports the creation of isolated, non-production virtual Dev and Test environments that can run IBM z/OS software and middleware on both Linux on Z and x86 platforms.
