We run all our Optim processes via batch using PR0CMND and ERRORLEVEL is always set and returned. It's an inherent variable, so there is no need for a parameter to receive this. We do assign our own variable to hold the value of ERRORLEVEL once PR0CMND returns control to the batch job and then we evaluate ...

Thank you for the question, Deborah. I know SQL Server support is near and dear to many Optim users (including myself). Everyone, please keep posting questions/topics you'd like to hear discussed by the Panel members. We always use our entire allotted time, so earlier submitted questions have a far ...

I don't think Optim has the built-in ability to create a separate converted .xf file and then delete the source extract .xf file upon completion. It has the option of deleting the source .xf if the convert fails, but not if it is successful as far as I can tell. Could you instead just point your extract ...

Thank you for the additional details. We still run Optim as 32-bit; even on 64-bit Windows servers, so we haven't hit the bitness issue you ran into with archive files. The 32-bit version runs fine for us, so it may be possible to redo your installation to run as 32-bit and then you can easily move any ...

Gary, will you please add some additional details on what you're trying to do? Subject line says you are archiving SQL Server and creating an archive collection, but content of your post is saying you're having an issue registering an archive file created on a different server and then ask about connecting ...

Fred's point about being careful with selecting a portion of the data via a view is a valid issue if this is meant to be a true archive. That being said, we have used views that don't entirely match the underlying table columns and it has worked in Access Definitions, so these errors may be for other ...

I'm working on a new Access Definition using Optim Data Growth 11.3 z/OS against DB2. There are about 10 tables in the AD and we noticed during testing that Optim is issuing commits during the Delete phase after each table is completed...which is far below the commit threshold. We expected Optim to just ...

FYI, There is now an iFix to address this data corruption. We have tested it and it appears to work and resolved the last byte of data getting altered. It is part of iFix 94 for Optim 11.3.0.7 (fixpack 7). ------------------------------ Keith Tidball Progressive Insurance ------------------------- ...

Before you expand the key limits, you should verify Optim is using sound execution paths against the tables. Optim is executing SQL under the covers, so if you see tables taking a long time to run you need to get back to some basic SQL query principles. Is your query on the Start table using an ...

The Data Byte Count in the archive report should be the byte count Optim read from your source. If you are unsure, just look at the byte count in the report to the actual byte count of the file you created by looking at the file in File Explorer or similar file/folder tool. If compression is on, the ...

Creating a View is done within the DBMS and then, yes, you reference the View and not the actual table in your Optim AD. You will need to check off the Optim product option to allow you to create Optim relationships against Views, too. ------------------------------ Keith Tidball Progressive Insurance ...

VARCHAR & NVARCHAR are different datatypes under the covers, so I'm not surprised Optim won't allow the relationship. We have gotten around some issues like this by creating a table VIEW and then casting the NVARCHAR column to be VARCHAR in the View Definition. Then create the Optim relationship ...

Curious if anyone is using or has created logic to find sensitive or PII data within free-form text strings. An example of this could be chat window information between a customer and a service rep whereby a customer could potentially enter sensitive information which gets saved into the repository holding ...

We have seen ODPP choke on such values, so we have code that evaluates the value of the field prior to masking it. If the value is blank or null, then just leave it as-is and don't try to mask it and move to the next record. ------------------------------ Keith Tidball Progressive Insurance ------ ...
