Unfortunately IBM is always months behind almost every other database provider on releasing .NET tools. ------------------------------ Jeremy Bowling ------------------------------

So after some quick evaluations I will be proceeding with Crystal Reports. I am accessing the IBM i using ODBC and I am creating reports on the fly and distributing them using a C# program that I will convert into a service when I am finished. CR allows me to store the SQL query with the report ...

The problem for me with Cognos was that I had to purchase it through my ERP vendor to make it integrate with their data and it was very expensive. Each time I wanted to make a change to the data, I had to pay them to do it on top of the monthly "support and maintenance" costs. Cognos as a standalone ...

Robert, After coming from Cognos, I have zero desire to go back. So when I saw that listed in the tour, I just moved on. I'm too blessed to be stressed. I have been working with IBM for almost 30 years, so I know pain is just a built-in "feature" of the platform. Just have to call them out ...

Tom, I have some Fortra products for the IBM i. There hasn't been a meaningful update to them in years. The Windows version of the same product (for example, WebDocs) gets updates all the time. I have brought this up to Fortra many times and it falls on deaf ears. Their solution for me is to buy ...

It gets harder by the day to support IBM. I have just spent the past 18 months converting my reports over to DB2 Web Query from Cognos. Just like that all of that time and effort is wasted due to IBM's incompetency. ------------------------------ Jeremy Bowling ------------------------------

Satid, Why do you keep posting this? Both posts you commented on were on the correct thread and relevant. ------------------------------ Jeremy Bowling ------------------------------

The version of SMB in 7.3 is now SMB2 and it is the default. It could be your client is trying to access the files using SMB1 still. https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/smb-and-smb2-support-ibm-i-73 SMB and SMB2 Support at IBM i 7.3 Troubleshooting Problem ...

I am not optimistic about Fortra bringing a great GUI to BRMS and more importantly maintaining that GUI moving forward. I have another one of their software packages that is sold for both Windows and IBM i platforms. When I was sold the product I was told they were identical other than the hardware they ...

If the IBM i can't handle parallel processing in 2022, it's probably time to look for a new platform honestly. ------------------------------ Jeremy Bowling ------------------------------

I know your question has been answered, but I wanted to also point out that DB2 Symmetric Multiprocessing is now a no-charge option. You can get a little more performance out of your IBM i if you have multiple cores available. ------------------------------ Jeremy Bowling ------------------- ...

There was a webinar recently discussing the new version. If you didn't get a chance to watch it live I think you still can. Link included below. I do remember them stating that an upgrade could be done using EZ Install, but I don't remember if they specifically mentioned 2.1. The Web Query guys have ...

Thank you Satid, Unfortunately the project I was working on was migrated over to another database system. I will read over this and keep it in mind for future projects. I am glad IBM was able to add this support and fulfilled the enhancement request I submitted. I think this makes the IBM i a much ...

Not sure if it was something with IBM's website or something on my end, but it is working now. I was clicking on the downloads link from this page: https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/ibm-i-access-client-solutions It was bypassing the required privacy agreement (that I have agreed to a hundred times) ...

From the front page of the IWS website: "In today's increasingly interconnected world, application programming interfaces (APIs) are becoming the digital reflection of an organization. Whether you call it web APIs or web services, getting started on IBM i is easier than ever with the Integrated Web ...

Wim, I am trying to make a simple API call to the IBM i from another website. You are correct about the options call, but apparently IBM didn't think an API needed to be called from another server so they didn't add that functionality. Satid, Thanks for the info, but I am already familiar with ...

I have an open support case with IBM, but I am not getting anywhere with the tech so any help would be appreciated. I want to provide an REST API interface using my IBM i to a couple of different websites. These websites run on different servers and are not a part of the IBM i. So with that in mind ...

Thanks Kent, Those errors were actually what threw me off for so long. I was chasing the wrong thing. It was actually a permission issue. I created a new user account and assigned that account to my API and everything is working now. ------------------------------ Jeremy Bowling ------------ ...

Thanks Satid. I found the issue. It was a security issue even though I gave permissions to QWSERVICE. Even with full access to everything QWSERVICE would not work. Using a different service user resolved the problem. It's crazy to me that the system could see the procedure and pull in the correct ...
