Hello Art, thanks for your reply. The "st_blah = 1" was just an example: it will change and there will probably be more than just one condition in the WHERE statement. We will test and see what gives. Thanks again! Arjen. ------------------------------ Arjen Van Drie ----------------- ...

Hi Group, how does Informix execute a WHERE statement in a query on a VIEW? Suppose we have this view (syntax might be not 100% accurate) CREATE VIEW myview AS SELECT st.blah AS st_blah, st.whatever AS st_whatever, st.anotherthing AS st_anotherthing, at.thingy AS at_thingy, at.growl ...

True that is, but I don't think that lbzip2 uses a different algorithm each time it runs. So when the problem would be in the compression utility, it would fail each time, I'd say. Anyway, I will look and test further and if all fails I probably need to acquire new hardware (bigger, better, probably ...

Hi David, no, on success it does not prompt for another tape. I have restored yesterday's backup on another machine and all went well. So the problem would be in lbzip2 (multi threaded bzip2). That could indeed be the problem when piping data into it as opposed to a single threaded compression ...

Hello Again, I modified the cronjob to start at 20h local time. I let it run, and it finished without errors; file system filled up to about 73% after which the backup script deleted the oldest backup and we were back to 50%. So it is definitely not the file system filling up, despite the errno 28. ...

Ok, let me do just that, even though I can hardly imagine the file system filling up, it actually only contains the informix ontape backup. But I have been surprised before. Funny enough it happened today, yesterday, July 6th, 5th, June 30th, 29th, 28th, 21st.. On the other days I got a "Completed" ...

Hello Paul, I can hardly imagine that would be the problem: the backup filesystem is 1TB in size of which half is used. The expected size of the backup is about 260G. I assume that ontape sort-of pipes the backup through the BACKUP_FILTER program before writing to disk, and not afterwards (first writing ...

Hi all, We have a cron job running at 22:00 hrs to backup our database. I have no clue why ontape is aborting. I hope I have entered enough info below. The resulting bzip compressed file is 240G one day, 253G the next, so it is aborting on different sizes and also after different runtimes. I just ...

Hello, our software supplier asked us to run a SQL script that came with a software upgrade. The script copies a fairly large table to a temp table with an extra field, then drops the original table and renames the temp table to the original table. Somewhere during the operation the script exits ...

Enough for now :) I don't have a lot of time right now to dig into onbar, but we do have a couple of large databases to take some time to backup and restore. I will keep your recommendation in the back of my mind. Best, Arjen. ------------------------------ Arjen Van Drie --------------- ...

Thanks Andreas, also for your remark about keeping the Monday backup after all. I also notice that an ontape restore is actually quite fast. Is there any more documentation on ontape internals: how does the program work exactly? I only find docs on syntax and how to use it. Best regards and ...

Hi, maybe a dumb question, but I just want to know for sure. In the documentation I read that a LEVEL 1 backup contains all data that has changed since the last LEVEL 0 backup. So this would mean that I make a LEVEL 0 on Sunday I make a LEVEL 1 on Monday evening I make a LEVEL ...

On the ones with 0% used, the first column says F for free. The one with 100% has U for used as the first flag for all 240 logical logs. ------------------------------ Arjen Van Drie ------------------------------

I mean, I have 11 other informix servers running (version 12.10.FC5 as stated in my original post), and all of them show 0% used. This is the only one showing 100% for all logical logs. This is what I find weird (and a bit worrying). If that is normal behaviour (one server 0% used, the other 100%), then ...

Of course a restore and verification is the only sure way, but I would not do that every time I take a backup: it would take too many resources from my team. So every once in a while a full restore (on zeroed files/disks, thanks for the suggestion), but for the daily backup I will check ontape's exit ...

Hello Andreas, that is what I already feared. There apparently is no other way to verify if a level 1 or 2 backup went well than by checking the exit status of the ontape command, and also by reading (parsing) what ontape prints afterwards, being something similar to "Read/Write End Of Medium ...
