    Sergio

    Our religion forbids to use anything called OracleXXX

    I heard different things about Centos (Which I use and like a lot). Apparently community support will continue, and I also heard that Red hat was no more directly involved in the project for some time already. So what is the future? I don't know

    Maybe someone in our community has more info about that ?

    The oracle reference is just a name to be kindness! :)

    My concern is for what I have seen, CentOS will be one test version and we cannot have the confidence of a properly tested and safe product...

    I don't think there is an official support statement about Oracle Linux from IBM. For what it's worth - I run one of the infrastructure support nodes using 12.10.FC5 on Oracle Linux 7.4 and did not see any issues in several years.

    # uname -a

    Linux halx 4.1.12-103.9.7.el7uek.x86_64 #2 SMP Mon Nov 20 18:15:07 PST 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

    # cat /etc/os-release

    NAME="Oracle Linux Server"
    VERSION="7.4"
    ID="ol"
    VERSION_ID="7.4"
    PRETTY_NAME="Oracle Linux Server 7.4"
    ANSI_COLOR="0;31"
    CPE_NAME="cpe:/o:oracle:linux:7:4:server"
    HOME_URL="https://linux.oracle.com/"
    BUG_REPORT_URL="https://bugzilla.oracle.com/"

    ORACLE_BUGZILLA_PRODUCT="Oracle Linux 7"
    ORACLE_BUGZILLA_PRODUCT_VERSION=7.4
    ORACLE_SUPPORT_PRODUCT="Oracle Linux"
    ORACLE_SUPPORT_PRODUCT_VERSION=7.4

    Out of curiosity - why RedHat (CentOS) ?

    Only because it's officially supported or due to some unique features?

    Asking because personally I prefer SLES / openSUSE mostly since it offers (in my opinion) fastest way to get into rescue mode which even allows network access with ssh and usually releases have newer kernels compared to RH. I know that other daring folks (and nVidia) like Ubuntu, don't really know why (less restrictive license?), Linux is Linux after all, what's missing can be built from source.

    I expect Informix to run on any Linux with kernel version matching or newer compared to minimal supported environment (currently RH 7.4 /  3.10.0-693.el7 for 14.10), only complication may be the need for compatibility packages with lower version of curses and ssl libraries.  Back in the days I even ran Informix on Yellow Dog Linux on PS3 before SONY disabled Linux completely.

    Let me know if it's not true for any Linux flavor.

    Thanks for reply Vladimir,

    Well, our use of centos is an old addiction because we use redhat versions since the beginning.
    I've used SUSE and liked it a lot, but my colleagues prefer centos...
    I'll give a look over OPENSUSE, but I like to have one small version to close it to avoid other holes and also OS size...
