Informix Tech Talks: History of the Informix User Groups - Part 1 and 2 by Carlton Doe, Walt Hultgren, Cathy Kipp, Lester Knutsen, and Mike Reetz

Part 1 - (1990 to 1995) We discuss early user groups, comp.database.informix and the Informix List and 1200 baud modems and getting together during a thunderstorm in Tampa to discuss starting the International Informix User Group.  What role did users play in the history of Informix? We will share stories about how the Informix User Groups got started in the early '90s. Does anyone else remember 1200 baud modems and the role they played in communications before the internet?

Part 2 - (1995 and 1997). Informix user group leaders get together to organize and start the International Informix User Group, and the iiug.org website. In 1995, there were 34 independent Informix User Groups around the world with over 4,000 members. We got together at the Informix Worldwide User Conference in 1995 to start the International Informix Users Group.
