Informix Innovator-C Edition - License - Cores Limit

    Hello All,

I know that Informix Innovator-C Edition (since xc2 versions) has a limit of 2 cores.
But can I have, for example, a Windows server with 6 cores and 2 Informix instances on the same server, with Innovator-C license?
Does the number of cores have to be physically limited, or does the license already make this limitation by software?

    Thanks,
    Tiago Santos

If you find a computer with 2 cores nowadays, please inform us.

AFAIK You are limited to 2 CPU VPs, not 2 cores

But let's wait for the official spell from an IBMer

This is free to download and use and may be used for production purposes up to the edition limits for memory, CPUs and disk.

    License is here:

    " 1.1) Processor Limit

The Program allows a maximum of two (2) Informix CPU Virtual Processor (maximum number of CPUVPs) per Install. "

So 2 CPU VPs "per install". That would mean one instance with two CPU VPs or two instances with one CPU VP each. If you need more than that you will have to install the additional instance on separate machines or VMs.

    Thanks Art
With your answer, it is clear what I can do.
I will re-configure my 2 Informix intances to 1 CPU VP, because these machine is just for testing, and i don't want to create a VM.

I just don't understand the limit per installation, because the Informix instance controls the limit of 2 CPU VPs (not per installation).
With the control per installation is only to we need more virtual machines if we need more instances? does not make sense.
Anyway, the limit of 2 CPUs per installation, I think it could be easily implemented by software, which seems to me that is not happening.

    Thank you all

    Hi, Tiago.
All Informix Edition limits are hardcoded into product core.
Try adding more than 2 cpu vps on IE and you will see an error message.

    Hi Alexandre,

I already tested, and in one instance, it is limiting to just 2 CPUs VPs.
If i configured onconfig with 4 CPUs, i only get 2 working, that's correct.

But i can create other instance on the same server (same Informix installation), with 2  CPUs VPs.
That's why i don't know if the limit of  2 CPUs VPs is really controlled by code.

    Thanks,
    Tiago Santos

There is control of the number of cpu vps per instance but not per install, correct. But having say three instances on an install or two instances with two cpu vps each is a technical license violation. I suppose you could install multiple times on one logical machine ... but that is at least walking a very thin line.

    Hi art,

I tested the two instances with 2 CPU VPs, just to confirm to Alexandre that unfortunately the limitation by installation is not being done by software as he said.

I realized from your previous comment that it would not be possible to have more than 2 instances on the same virtual machine.

And I already have my 2 instances with just 1 CPU VP, to stay on the line;)

    Thanks again

Art, I agree with you (compliance would explain "install" as you said)
But, they have limited use virtual server definition for server - so I would expect 2 CPUVPs per LUVS
