More or less, nothing has changed. A couple of comments and answers to your questions:
- You can in v14.10 upgrade an hdr or rss secondary by a single minor version without a restore. Going from 12.10 to 14.10 requires that the secondaries be restored from the primary.
- The page you cited leaves out the final step, running the onmode -d secondary on the secondary after the restore. (Do NOT bring the secondary to online status.)
- Optionally you can use ifxclone to create the new upgraded secondary instead of a manual archive & restore.
- You need the archive after the upgrade in order to restore to the secondary with the new version!
- You should indeed take an archive before upgrading also in case the upgrade goes horribly wrong.

Subject: Documentation - Upgrade from IDS 12 to 14 in primary/HDR/RSS configuration
Hello,
I looked for information about upgrading primary/hdr/rss from IDS12 to 14
But I only found for IDS11
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/upgrading-high-availability-data-replication-hdr-pair
Do I have to go through the same steps for 12 to 14?
Also,
Step 4:
I could understand that it's necessary to do a L0 backup close to the upgrade, but why just after it and before connecting the HDR? If it doesn't work, I won't restore from the fresh upgrade but from the last L0 before the upgrade.
Step 7:
If I choose to not bring the primary to standard mode,
so I don't need to do a physical restore, isn't it?
Thanks
