    Hello.

The following documents describe the options for users to receive support from IBM after End of Service.

    Informix Continuing Support Offering
    https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/informix-continuing-support-offering

IBM Analytics new support option- Continuing support after product EOS including Db2, Informix, Cognos, ILG & ECM product line
    https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/blogs/IMSupport/entry/IBM_Analytics_new_support_option_Continuing_support_after_product_EOS_including_Db2_Cognos_ILG_ECM_product_line?lang=en

Based on the above document, can I request Case Open for Informix 11.50, which is currently EOS?

Only if you have signed and paid for an extended support agreement with IBM.

Shy not just upgrade to v14.10, ot at least to v12.10?

Totally agree with the upgrade recommendation.
However, IBM policy changed to accept the opening of the cases (thus the information in one of the URLs posted by OP), but the level of support will be limited. No new fixes will be developed etc.

So, the case may be opened, but the outcome depends on the problem. If the analysis can't map it to a known issue for which already exists a patch, no solution will be given.

For simpler situations, like doubts, behavior clarification etc. support will be provided as usual.

All this assumes customer has S&S payed (service and support), but extended support is not necessary.

I personally don't like this, because it leads customers to stay on old versions which compared to new versions of competitors lack functionality, but that's the way it goes... and I suppose most customers love this policy :)

    Regards.

    Hi. Art and Fernando.
The customer I mentioned has been using informix for a long time but is using the enterprise edition and hesitant to upgrade Informix due to the high license fee (P770 total 18 cores).

Customers using Informix in Korea are considering switching to open source dbms such as postgresql or dbms made in Korea such as TIBERO or CUBRID, which have very low license fees.

Most Korean IT workers are familiar with Oracle but do not know Informix. Informix in legacy systems is fading away. In addition, IBM Korea does not support Informix, but only Db2 marketing. Informix is a great DBMS, but it's hard to convince customers to keep using Informix. Maybe Informix will be dead in Korea.

Thank you for your kind reply.

My understanding from the conference, you can get support now but it is a
'no fix' support i.e. any bugs will not be fixed but general
    help/diagnostic will be available

    Cheers
    Paul

What is this about "IBM Korea does not support Informix"?

Please check with Art who can raise this via the IIUG.

    Regards,
    David.
