Akiko Headshot<Drum roll please

It is my great pleasure to announce that on September 1, 2020, Akiko Hoshikawa was appointed IBM Distinguished Engineer, Db2 for z/OS and Integrated AI.

In her new role, Akiko will continue in her Db2 performance role and expand her leadership to the fusion of state-of-the-art database technology with AI and the robust IBM Z hardware and software stack. She will continue to drive embedding of AI into Db2 for z/OS, making Db2 faster, smarter, and more self-managing.

She will also lead projects to extend and modernize the IBM Z platform to bring analytics closer to where the data resides, with high performance and quality, to maintain Db2 for z/OS as a top choice for next-generation IT professionals and enterprise clients.

Akiko’s appointment recognizes her exceptional track record of innovating leading solutions in AI and driving improved performance for operational data transaction processing:

  • As architect and leader for Db2 AI for z/OS System Assessment, she combined her deep knowledge of Db2 with IBM Watson Machine Learning technology to deliver insights for improving Db2 performance and preserving system health.
  • In Db2 12 for z/OS, she drove significant improvements to Db2 and application performance through in-memory index, which led Gartner to classify Db2 for z/OS as an in-memory database.
  • With relentless focus, she established high-impact relationships with clients and is well respected for her fact-based performance analysis during both design and correction.
We look forward to working with Akiko to extend her track record of key technological innovations, strong technical leadership, and extraordinary impact to our clients.

Given social distancing practices, we celebrated Akiko's appointment with a drive-by parade earlier this month, and I've attached a few photos of the event so you can also share in the fun of helping her celebrate this huge career milestone!

CONGRATULATIONS, AKIKO!
