The IBM Db2 SQL Reference for Cross-Platform Development manual defines the common feature set of the Structured Query Language (Db2 SQL) across all platforms in the IBM Db2 family. It describes the rules and limits to help users navigate the Db2 family products and develop portable SQL applications across Db2 on various platforms. This book is authored and reviewed by the IBM Db2 SQL Language Council (SLC) and the latest published version is Version 6.

The Version 6 edition uses the familiar format of the SQL Reference manuals for Db2 family products, and includes information on the following topics:

  • Database concepts
  • Language elements
  • Built-in global variables
  • Built-in functions
  • Built-in Procedures
  • Queries
  • Statements
  • SQL control statements
  • SQL limits
  • Characteristics of SQL statements
  • SQLCA (SQL communication area)
  • SQLDA (SQL descriptor area)
  • SQLSTATE values - common return codes
  • CCSID values
  • Coding SQL statements in C, COBOL, Java, REXX applications, and coding programs for use by external routines in general

The IBM Db2 SQL Reference for Cross-Platform Development Version 6 covers the features that were delivered in these DB2 family product releases and earlier: Db2 12 for z/OS, Db2 for i Version 7.3, and Db2 Version 11.1 for Linux, UNIX, and Windows. For a full list of the new features in the Version 6 edition, see  IBM Db2 SQL Reference for Cross-Platform Development.

When the next edition of the IBM Db2 SQL Reference for Cross-Platform Development is published, we will announce it in this IBM Data Management community.
